Paragraph 1

When surfing there are a couple of vital pieces of equipment, these are the following: Wetsuit, these are a very essential to all surfers living in New Zealand, the water temperature is incredibly low in the mid-winter. During the colder seasons you will need to have booties, these are like water shoes, they are made of wetsuit material, along with a hood and gloves. Surfboards come in entirely different shapes, volume and length. Surfboards are crucial to surfing as they are required to ride waves. On a surfboard there are a few things compulsory for a surfboard to function properly they are: Fins, these are located on the bottom end of the board to help turn. Tail pad, this is stuck on the bottom of the deck, this is where you set your back foot to keep it from slipping off. Leg rope, also known as a leash or leggie, this is a very important to a surfer as this stops their board from drifting away after wiping out. There is a lot of very expensive equipment included and needed in the sport of surfing!

Paragraph 2

If you surf, you have to be a confident swimmer. This is crucial as surfing is not at all as easy as it is cracked up to be. You need to be warm and flexible before going for a surf, this will mean jogging along the beach for 5 minutes, then having a good stretch routine before getting into the water. Now, paddling looks reasonably easy doesn't it? Let me tell you, after paddling out the back for the 10th time in a surf session your arms will be dead! You also need a very good amount of stamina/endurance, this will help with your paddle fitness.

Paragraph 3

Surfing is not the safest sport, there are a few safety precautions around surfing. These are the following: rips, drift, tides and dangerous swell, these things you should be cautious around in the waves. Be very aware when surfing around a lot of other surfers, especially kooks and long boarders, as they are regularly all out of control. After falling off a wave you usually get held under, which is scary if you’re down there any longer than about ten seconds. Leg ropes are very critical to surfing because they are what keep your surfboard connected/close to you. And of course sea life, creatures like: Jellyfish, skates, stingrays, big fish, dolphins & baby sharks are very, very scary things! Especially when you stand on them, or they catch a ride on your surfboard. I hope you have learnt or found something interesting while reading this. Thanks Franky🦈
